About Ike Reilly:

Libertyville, IL native Ike Reilly is one of America’s best contemporary songwriters. The former gravedigger and hotel doorman made his major label debut in 2001 with the Universal release of the stunning Salesmen and Racists. He has recently completed his seventh studio recording, Born On Fire, and his live performances both as a solo performer and as the leader of the ferocious Ike Reilly Assassination have garnered him a cult following and high praise from critics. David Carr of the New York Times said, “Ike Reilly is a kind of natural resource, mined from the bedrock of music. All the values that make rock important to people—storytelling, melody, rage, laughter—are part and parcel of every Ike Reilly show I have ever seen. One of the best touring acts in the country, Reilly's band takes it as a personal challenge to upend and amaze every room they play in.” To learn more about Ike Reilly check out his website.

Uptown Grill's Playlist Theater

About Fred Eaglesmith:

Fred Eaglesmith is finally coming back to LaSalle and is sure to bring a lot of excitement to our stage! After all the years touring the United States, Canada, and Europe, having his songs covered by some of the biggest names in music, and appearing on “The Late Show with David Letterman” – the enigmatic, countrified, Rock n’ Roll troubadour, Fred Eaglesmith, is currently touring on with musical wife Tif Ginn.

Eaglesmith is a veteran of the music industry and at the same time is about as far away from actually participating in today’s music industry as one could be. Never operating within anyone’s boundaries, he continues to set the standard for independent artists everywhere. Tif Ginn is a gutsy, amazing singer and a transcendent songwriter who has spent most of her life touring and playing music. Her impressive, sultry vocals and glorious harmonies with Fred, along with her multiple instrument additions to the show will have you in awe. Sunday Lecture Series: Illinois Memoirs

Sunday Lecture Series: Illinois Memoirs

April 15, 2018, 1:00pm - April 15, 2018, 2:30pm

LaSalle County Historical Society Museum
101 E Canal St
Utica, IL  61373 Map

Join us, Sunday April 15th 2018, at the Lock 16 Visitor Center for our Sunday lecture series: Illinois Memoirs: Our Story, Your Opportunity!

Illinois’s monumental literary heritage is particularly rich in autobiographies and memoirs, including the first noted autobiography from the Midwest, Chief Black Hawk’s, the most famous memoir associated with the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant’s, and one of the most celebrated autobiographies by an American woman, Jane Addams’s Twenty Years at Hull House, among many others. Such works often address issues of identity and belonging, which are as crucial today as ever. Because of the rapidity of cultural change, personal accounts that offer perspectives on life in particular places, families, communities, and occupations at various points in the past, even the recent past, are increasingly valuable.

Speaker John E. Hallwas is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Western Illinois University. An historian as well as a literary scholar, he has written or edited twenty-eight books related to the Midwest, including titles like Western Illinois Heritage (1984), Illinois Literature: The Nineteenth Century (1986), Spoon River Anthology: An Annotated Edition (1992), Cultures in Conflict: A Documentary History of the Mormon War in Illinois (1996, with Roger Launius), The Bootlegger: A Story of Small-Town America (1998), Keokuk and the Great Dam (2001), and Dime Novel Desperadoes: The Notorious Maxwell Brothers (2008). He has also written dozens of scholarly articles on Illinois literature and history, as well as hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, plus several history-focused plays.

Uptown Grill's Playlist Theater

About Smooth Hound Smith:

Smooth Hound Smith is a foot stompin' American roots duo comprised of "one-man-band" Zack Smith (guitars/vocals/foot drums/harmonicas/banjo) and Caitlin Doyle (vocals/percussion). Established in 2012, and based in East Nashville, TN, they record and perform a varied and unique style of folky, garage-infused rhythm & blues. Using primal foot percussion, complex, fuzzed-out, finger-picked guitar patterns, warbled harmonicas, tasty harmonies and A LOT of tambourine, they are able to create something rugged and visceral- a modern interpretation of early blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll music that harkens back to the traditions of hazy front porch folk songs as well as raucous back-alley juke joints.

In addition to their own headlining shows, they have toured as support for bands such as the Dixie Chicks, The Record Company, and Jamestown Revival. To learn more about Smooth Hound Smith visit thier website.

About Forlorn Strangers:

Forlorn Strangers is a quintet based out of Nashville, Tennessee. The band is a collective of five songwriters, each having their own distinct styles that blend into one unmistakable voice. Their sound delves into all reaches of American roots music, driven by foot-stomping percussion and soaring family harmonies.

The band is comprised of sisters Abigail Dempsey (fiddle, guitar, percussion, vocals) and Hannah Leigh Lusk (mandolin, percussion, upright bass, vocals); Chris Banke (guitar, mandolin, vocals); Benjamin Lusk (banjo, guitar, vocals); and Jesse Thompson (upright bass, dobro, guitar, vocals). Since 2013, Forlorn Strangers has released two EPs (While the Grass Grows and American Magic Tricks) and has toured continuously across the United States, playing for an ever-increasing group of appreciative fans. In 2015, Forlorn Strangers played over 180 shows in over one hundred cities and more than thirty states nationwide. To learn more about Forlorn Strangers visit their website.

About Liz Longley:

Longley has a gift for culling musical treasures as though straight from thin air. And now, the Berklee College of Music graduate and award-winning songwriter is set to share them with listeners on her self-titled album-her first after signing with Sugar Hill Records in December 2014.

While Longley's songs and vocals invite complimentary comparisons to Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole and Nanci Griffith-all artists she's supported live-her latest effort spotlights a style and confidence that's all her own. You can hear it in the subtle-yet-soaring vocals on "Memphis," the dagger directness of "Skin and Bones," the bittersweet farewell that drives "This Is Not the End" (featured in the 2012 season finale of Lifetime's Army Wives). They're all cuts that dare you to hold back the goosebumps.

In fact, Longley's singing never fails to thrill and enthrall. Her voice and tone, touched with the slightest of country inflections, pours out like clean, crystalline water. Still, she can roar like a waterfall or flow effortlessly along the bed her backing band lays down, as on "Peace of Mind." The track showcases Longley yearning after silence and stillness to beat back demons of self-doubt. To learn more about Liz Longley check out her website.
